Youth Counsellor

MARS Recruitment are seeking a dynamic and experienced Youth Counsellor to join an established mental health service which focuses on providing innovative and accessible mental health services to children and young adults across Western Australia. You will become an essential part of the Peel division and provide recovery-oriented mental health support to young adolescents.

This is a fixed term contract commencing immediately until 2025 with possibility to extend.

Full time preferred but part time applicants can be considered.

About You

You will be an experienced Counsellor and possess a tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or Occupational Therapy and have a relevant member body registration.

Other key attributes will include:

  • Experience working with children and/or younger adults with a minimum of three years' experience working with young people at risk of suicide, depression, anxiety and/or self-harm.
  • Provide an unbiased, non-judgmental approach to therapy support and be an advocate for individuals whose lives have been affected by their mental health.
  • A willingness to be both office and community based into the peel region during school term time, travel can be up to the peel and Harvey region on occasion - travel reimbursed per KM.
  • You will have the ability to work systemically, effectively engaging and working with multidisciplinary teams, adolescents / young adults and their carers/families.
  • Ability to work autonomously and display sound professional judgement.
  • You will possess a high level of emotional intelligence, empathy and have a keen interest in supporting the younger demographic.

About the Role

The objective of this position is to provide one on one counselling to individuals between the ages of 12-25 years of age and incorporate a mixture of education, support and evidence based clinical interventions, ideally aimed at strengthening resiliency and coping resources.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing direct counselling services to young people in a clinical and community environment, this can include schools and other educational settings.
  • Develop and foster professional relationships with patients, families and carers, building rapport with a recovery-oriented approach.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Conduct case reviews and develop care plans as part of a multidiscipline team.
  • Provide group-based programs.
  • Development of evidence based clinical practices.
  • If applicable, conduct supervision of more junior staff members providing mentorship support.
  • Report directly into senior management advising of update on caseload progress.
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement.
