Mars Recruitment partnering with a high-growth insurance and financial services group operating across Australia and New Zealand to find an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its expanding in-house legal team. This is a senior, hands-on role offering broad exposure across commercial, regulatory and advisory matters within the insurance sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex insurance and commercial contracts across multiple business units
Advising on insurer TOBAs, delegated authority (claims and underwriting) agreements, SLAs, referrals and sponsorship arrangements
Supporting RFTs and strategic insurance distribution initiatives
Providing regulatory advice under Australian and New Zealand insurance and financial services legislation, including Corporations Act (Ch 7), FMC Act, ASIC Act and Insurance Contracts legislation
Advising on consumer protection, competition, privacy, marketing, spam and hawking obligations relevant to insurance distribution
Reviewing insurance marketing material, statutory disclosures, policies and client documentation
Property leasing, intellectual property and employment-related matters
Managing insurance-related disputes, complaints and regulatory enquiries, with some company secretarial exposure
Key Requirements:
A minimum of 6-7+ PQE lawyer with strong insurance experience, ideally gained in-house within an insurer or financial services organisation.
Commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, regulated insurance environment.
Experience operating as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, providing clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice
Proven ability to manage a broad legal portfolio end-to-end, balancing commercial, regulatory and risk considerations
Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of complex commercial contracts, with the confidence to lead negotiations independently
Exposure to working within a regulated environment, with the ability to interpret legislation and translate requirements into workable business solutions.
