Risk & Control Lead

An exciting contract opportunity to lead operational risk and controls uplift, driving audit readiness and control testing!

Mars Recruitment is partnering with a leading global financial institution to find a Risk & Controls Lead to strengthen operational risk governance, uplift internal controls, and support audit and assurance activities on a 6-month contract basis. This is an ideal opportunity for an internal audit or operational risk professional who thrives in a structured, regulated environment and enjoys hands‑on ownership of controls, policies, testing and assurance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review operational risk documentation, including issues, controls, obligations and audit methodologies.

  • Coordinate implementation of mandatory head office procedures across business units.

  • Manage updates to internal operating procedures, ensuring accuracy, approvals and timely communication.

  • Conduct regular and ad‑hoc operational risk checks, investigations, control testing and analysis.

  • Prepare high‑quality reporting for senior management, committees and head office (CSA, KRI, outsourcing and audit‑related reports).

  • Support targeted reviews, internal/external audit activities and operational risk uplift initiatives.

  • Assist with project management tasks and branch‑level risk governance activities.

  • Act as a coordination point for the Risk Control Department, ensuring clear communication and timely delivery.

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years of Operational Risk or Internal Audit experience within banking or financial services.

  • Experience in corporate banking or Big 4 advisory environment, with exposure to controls, assurance or operational risk uplift.

  • Strong understanding of APRA prudential requirements and regulated financial services environments.

  • Excellent reporting, analysis and presentation capability.

  • High proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint; experience with workflow systems.

  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrated time management, organisation and ability to deliver consistently to deadlines.

  • High level of accountability, ownership and follow‑through.

  • Analytical mindset, sound judgement and a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
