Resident Medical Officer - Casual

We are actively recruiting Resident Medical Officers for casual shifts with a private hospital in Subiaco. This role is as part of the hospitals Junior Doctor programme where you would shadow consultants across General Medical, Oncology, Surgery and Cardiology.

What does this role consist of?

• Manage patient care under the direction of consultants and where applicable the supervision of registrars; boundaries of clinical responsibility will be defined at the commencement of each unit attachment and will depend on previous clinical experience.
• Contribute to all aspects of clinical care of patients who are admitted to hospital; commit to a team approach in the delivery of care working closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, members of pastoral care services, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite.
• Document clearly and regularly all relevant details of patients' care while in hospital.
• When requested, complete discharge summaries in a timely fashion, with adequate information for the General Practitioner and others to continue care.
• Arrange and document results of relevant investigations
• Co-ordinate multidisciplinary management of patients, including consultation requests for Allied Health or other medical specialties and nurse case managers.
• At times, counsel patients and family members regarding clinical findings, prognosis and care plans if appropriate within the boundaries of the caregiver's experience.
• Prescribe drugs for inpatients, write owing prescriptions and authority prescriptions in a timely manner.
• Participate in emergency MER calls and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• Where applicable surgically assist in theatre, including develop suturing skills, laparoscopic & robotic surgical skills and open/closure techniques.
• Complete documentation required at time of death, including death certificate, cremation certificate and a death in hospital form and liaise with the coroner where applicable

Essential Criteria:

• A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of the hospital
• Eligible for provisional or general registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Provide evidence of having passed AMC 1 & 2 (for standard authority pathway applicants).
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills (if applicable applicants should provide evidence of having achieved an IELTS overall band score of 8).
• Have an understanding of and ability to apply occupational health and safety principles to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
• Proven highly developed interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrate clinical and procedural experience commensurate with clinical responsibilities of a resident medical officer.
• Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement of patient outcomes, including participation in clinical audit.

Desirable:

• Advanced Life Support 2 (Accredited by Australian Resuscitation Council) or equivalent completed within the last 24 months.
• Publication(s) in a peer reviewed journal.
• Demonstrate evidence of an interest in education.
• Presentation at a national conference (or equivalent).
• An interest in clinical research and a desire to improve research skills.
