Mars Recruitment is looking for a Governance professional, specialising in Privacy to join a leading utilities organisation permanently. You'll play a key role in providing advice on privacy law compliance, FIRB conditions, and supporting internal governance functions. This is a hands-on position, balancing advisory responsibilities with governance processes and committee support.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal and strategic advice on privacy and FIRB Condition compliance
Conduct and review Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)
Stay informed of legal and policy changes affecting the business
Support information governance and privacy-by-design initiatives
Perform committee secretarial duties, maintain registers, and prepare reports
Assist in training and developing governance frameworks and policies
Contribute to a strong compliance and risk culture across the business
Key Requirements:
Minimum 4 years' experience as a solicitor (in-house or private practice)
Proven experience in privacy law, legal advisory, or data governance
Strong understanding of the Australian Privacy Principles and PIA requirements
Skilled at interpreting legislation and delivering practical legal advice
Excellent communication, organisational, and time management skills
Experience with minute taking and complaint handling
Collaborative mindset with a high standard of responsiveness and professionalism
Experience supporting Privacy Officers or Risk Officers
Background in developing governance or compliance systems
Familiarity with corporate governance best practices
Ability to identify and advise on business risk
