Operational Risk Manager

Drive operational risk excellence and resilience in a high-impact, business-partnering role within a leading financial services organisation!

Mars Recruitment is partnering with a leading financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Operational Risk Manager to drive operational risk capability and resilience. This role partners with business units to strengthen risk ownership, control frameworks, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, maintain, and uplift the Operational Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with CPS 230, CPS 220, CPS 234, and industry best practice.
  • Develop and implement operational risk policies, standards, and methodologies, including RCSAs, incident and issue management, control assurance, and third-party risk oversight.
  • Provide independent review and challenge of business risk frameworks to ensure effective controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee operational incidents from identification to remediation, including root cause analysis, lessons learned, and strengthening of controls.
  • Deliver Line 2 assurance activities across key risk areas, projects, and critical operations, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Track key risk indicators, loss events, and control performance, and prepare clear risk reporting for senior leadership and governance committees.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business units, coaching teams on risk assessments, control testing, policy adherence, and embedding strong risk culture.

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years operational risk, risk management, or compliance experience within financial services or regulated institutions.
  • Strong understanding of APRA prudential standards (CPS 230, CPS 220, CPS 234) and the three lines-of-defence model.
  • Practical experience with RCSAs, control assurance, incident management, and operational risk reporting.
  • Proven ability to uplift risk frameworks, controls, and organisational risk culture.
  • Strong advisory and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to balance business objectives and risk expectations.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Tertiary qualification in business, finance, risk, or a related field preferred.
