MARS Recruitment is seeking four experienced Mental Health Registered Nurses for contract opportunities within an Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit in Alice Springs.

These contracts offer the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive mental health care in one of Australia's most unique clinical environments.

Contract details

• Location: Alice Springs, Northern Territory
• Pay rate: $85-$90 per hour
• Contract length: 8-12 weeks
• 2 positions commencing 10 September 2026
• 2 positions commencing 21 September 2026
• Full-time rotating roster and shift work

About the role
As a Mental Health Registered Nurse, you will provide safe, responsive and person-centred care to adults experiencing acute mental health concerns.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care
• Coordinating care to support positive clinical outcomes
• Managing patients with complex and acute mental health needs
• Working within a high-dependency mental health environment
• Collaborating with medical, nursing and allied health professionals
• Maintaining accurate clinical documentation
• Providing culturally appropriate care to patients and their families
• Contributing to a physically, culturally and psychosocially safe environment
• Working in accordance with relevant legislation, clinical guidelines and professional standards
• Participating in shift work and supporting other clinical areas when required

To be considered, you will need:

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• A minimum of 2-3 years' recent mental health inpatient experience
• Experience working within a Mental Health High Dependency Unit
• The ability to work confidently with minimal supervision
• Strong clinical assessment and care coordination skills
• Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• An understanding of culturally safe healthcare practices
• Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement principles
• Availability to complete an 8-12 week contract

Compliance requirements
Successful applicants must hold or be willing to obtain:

• NT Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card
• Criminal History Check issued by a state or territory police service or the AFP and dated within six months of the contract. MARS can handle this for you if you don't have one currently.
• Evidence of compliance with Category A healthcare worker immunisation requirements
• A complete candidate and compliance pack before submission
