Mars Recruitment is parterning with a leading non-bank lender to find a commercially focused Legal Counsel to join their team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with 2-5 years PQE to step into a newly created position focusing on debt collection and litigation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and lodge caveats and mortgages with relevant land registries.
  
• Act as the primary legal contact for Collections and Workout teams, providing practical and timely advice.
  
• Contribute to the design and optimisation of legal workflows that support debt recovery strategies.
  
• Draft and negotiate settlement deeds, repayment arrangements, and restructuring documentation.
  
• Assist with AFCA dispute responses.
  
• Provide ad hoc legal and regulatory advice and review contracts as needed.
  

Key Requirements:

• Law degree with a current Australian practising certificate.
  
• 2-5 years PQE, ideally in lending, debt recovery, or commercial litigation.
  
• Strong experience preparing caveats, mortgages, and settlement documentation.
  
• Experience managing or advising on commercial debt collection litigation is advantageous.
  
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  
• High integrity and professional judgment with a business-minded approach.
  
• Visa sponsorship considered for exceptional talent.
