Mars Recruitment is exclusively partnering with a leading, global capital markets organisation to appoint a newly created Perth-based Risk & Controls leadership position.
As the lead Business Controls representative for Australia, you will provide first-line oversight across a broad non-financial risk mandate encompassing operational risk, AML, regulatory compliance, operational resilience and trading governance. You'll work closely with business leaders, risk specialists and global stakeholders to ensure robust control frameworks while supporting commercial objectives.This role offers a genuine seat at the table, combining strategic influence with hands-on execution in an environment where your expertise and judgement will directly shape business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner with senior business leaders to provide practical advice on regulatory, compliance and non-financial risk matters.
Lead the implementation and ongoing enhancement of risk and control frameworks across the Australian business.
Oversee AML, sanctions and financial crime controls, ensuring regulatory obligations are effectively managed.
Conduct risk assessments and monitor emerging risks across the business.
Review incidents, control weaknesses and risk events, driving remediation and continuous improvement.
Support governance and oversight of electronic and algorithmic trading activities.
Execute monitoring and assurance activities across key risk areas.
Provide reporting and insights on control effectiveness, risk exposures and remediation activities.
Partner with regional and global stakeholders on risk initiatives, regulatory change and control enhancement programs.
Support regulatory reviews, audits, testing activities and assurance engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
8+ years' experience within financial services, banking, capital markets or a similarly regulated environment.
Experience across business controls, non-financial risk, operational risk, compliance, AML or first-line risk management.
Strong understanding of Australian regulatory frameworks and key regulators.
Exposure to capital markets, institutional banking, trading environments or corporate banking operations.
Proven ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
The confidence to engage with senior executives and challenge constructively where required.
Experience working within complex or matrixed organisations would be highly regarded.
