Head of Risk & Compliance

A hands‑on, proactive risk and compliance leadership opportunity to drive risk culture across a fast‑moving financial services business.

Mars Recruitment is partnering with a high‑growth financial services organisation to appoint a Head of Risk & Compliance. This influential role works closely with the CRO and Executive Team to drive the uplift and ongoing evolution of enterprise risk and compliance frameworks.

You'll shape a proactive risk culture, ensure frameworks remain robust and commercially aligned, and lead a small, high‑performing team. The role suits someone who thrives in fast‑moving environments and can provide clear challenge and practical guidance across products, operations, technology, financial crime, and regulatory change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the ongoing enhancement of enterprise risk and compliance frameworks, ensuring effective identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of material risks.

  • Oversee operational, technology, cyber, fraud, financial crime, and third‑party risk activities, including incidents, breaches, controls, and remediation.

  • Lead a risk‑based compliance monitoring and assurance program, including control testing and internal assurance reviews.

  • Provide independent challenge on new initiatives, product changes, and business processes.

  • Manage regulatory obligations, licensing requirements, AML/CTF and financial crime controls, and regulatory engagement.

  • Prepare high‑quality reporting for senior management, committees, and the Board.

  • Champion a strong risk and compliance culture through training, communication, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 8-10+ years' experience in risk and compliance roles.

  • Strong understanding of ASIC, Corporations Act, AML/CTF, Privacy Act and broader regulatory frameworks.

  • You bring deep experience in risk and compliance within Australian financial services, ideally with exposure to lending or credit products.
  • Experience within a non‑bank lending environment is highly regarded, particularly if you've operated in fast‑moving, commercially driven settings.
  • Experience uplifting risk maturity in dynamic, evolving environments.

  • Strong analytical judgement, communication skills, and stakeholder influence.

  • Background in financial crime or fraud investigation (highly regarded).

  • Experience preparing reporting for senior management or Boards.
