Data Scientist

Mars Recruitment is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join a growing Financial Services organisation. In this role, you will analyse complex datasets to uncover actionable insights, build and maintain predictive models, and prepare reporting to support data-driven decision-making. You will leverage statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualisation techniques to identify patterns, make predictions, and support strategies that improve business outcomes and manage risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse large and complex datasets using statistical techniques to provide actionable business insights.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers to maintain and develop datasets for ongoing analysis and reporting.
  • Identify new data sources that can enhance analytics and reporting capabilities.
  • Support improvements to data governance practices and data management frameworks.
  • Develop and apply algorithms and models to mine data, clean and validate datasets, and improve model accuracy.
  • Interpret trends and patterns with clear objectives in mind.
  • Implement analytical models in production through collaboration with software developers and machine learning engineers.
  • Identify business challenges that can be addressed with data-driven solutions.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a relevant data science role; experience in banking or insurance is advantageous but not essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial studies, Applied Finance or a related field. Master's degree in Data Science or related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, SQL, and Tableau or Power BI for data visualisation.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey insights effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Solid understanding of mathematics and statistics for data analysis.
  • Ability to explore, clean, transform, and visualise data effectively.
  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms for predictive modelling.
  • Strong business acumen to translate data insights into actionable strategies.
