Business Development Manager – Retail Tech (Tech Hardware)

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Business Development Manager to expand a leading retail technology portfolio within the Australian market.

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of the Australian retail ecosystem, including key retail organisations across multiple formats, along with expertise in retail hardware, software, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), and systems integrators.

You will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, exploring emerging market trends, developing strategic partnerships, and collaborating closely with existing sales teams to drive sustainable growth across the Australian retail sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute targeted business development strategies to increase market penetration within the Australian retail sector, focusing on acquiring new enterprise and mid-market clients across supermarkets, convenience stores, specialty retailers, department stores, and omnichannel retail businesses.
  • Leverage a deep understanding of the Australian retail landscape to identify unmet market needs, emerging trends, and new business opportunities aligned with retail technology solutions.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking, and collaboration with internal sales and technical teams.
  • Achieve and exceed quarterly and annual revenue and growth targets.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders across the retail ecosystem, including retailers, ISVs, systems integrators, technology partners, and industry associations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing insights into retail technology solutions including Point of Sale (POS), self-service technologies, payment systems, and customer engagement platforms.
  • Conduct ongoing market research and competitor analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
  • Provide actionable market intelligence and recommendations to support product strategy and market positioning.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, pre-sales, and product teams to ensure successful opportunity development, solution delivery, and customer outcomes.
  • Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences, trade shows, and networking forums.
  • Prepare and present regular business development reports, market analyses, pipeline updates, and growth forecasts.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in business development, sales, or account management within the Australian retail technology sector.
  • Proven success in acquiring new customers, building strategic partnerships, and driving revenue growth.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian retail landscape, including major retail formats, industry trends, and customer buying behaviours.
  • Solid knowledge of retail technology solutions, including POS systems, self-service solutions, payment technologies, retail software platforms, and associated hardware ecosystems.
  • Established network within the retail technology market, including retailers, ISVs, systems integrators, and technology partners.
