General Practitioner | Clinical Advisory Team

MARS Recruitment is seeking an experienced General Practitioner to join a Federal Government health team as a Senior Medical Advisor. MARS Recruitment is partnering with a Federal Government department to recruit a Senior Medical Advisor for a unique part-time opportunity focused on clinical governance, complex case review, healthcare quality and strategic medical advice.

Working 0.6 FTE / three days per week, this is an excellent portfolio opportunity for an experienced GP, Medical Officer or Medical Advisor looking to combine clinical practice with senior advisory work.

The Role

As Senior Medical Advisor, you will provide expert medical advice and clinical oversight within a complex healthcare environment.

Working within an experienced multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance, risk management and the review of complex healthcare matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and chairing clinical case review forums
  • Reviewing complex clinical cases and providing evidence-based recommendations
  • Participating in incident reviews, clinical governance and risk management
  • Providing senior-level medical advice to key stakeholders
  • Preparing clinical reports, recommendations and briefing material
  • Contributing to health policy, procedures and governance frameworks
  • Supporting quality improvement and clinical assurance initiatives
  • Analysing health data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborating with internal and external healthcare stakeholders

About You

We are looking for an experienced medical professional who enjoys the broader governance, quality, risk and strategic aspects of healthcare.

You will require:

  • Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
  • Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM or another relevant specialist medical college
  • Significant experience as a General Practitioner, Medical Officer or Medical Advisor
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, healthcare quality and risk management
  • Experience reviewing complex clinical matters and providing evidence-based advice
  • Excellent written communication and clinical report-writing skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation capability
  • Ability to work autonomously in a hybrid or remote environment

Experience within government, public health, correctional health, defence health, occupational health, healthcare policy, accreditation or clinical governance will be highly regarded.

An existing Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance is advantageous; however, sponsorship can be considered for a suitable candidate.
