National Assistant Director- Information Releases| Federal Government Contract

📍 Location: WA, NSW, SA, VIC, ACT, NT or TAS
💰 Rate: $80-$90 per hour + super
🕒 Contract: 12-month contract with extension options
🏢 Work type: Hybrid (not fully remote)

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director - Information Releases to lead a specialist team managing the lawful release of sensitive clinical and client information on behalf of our client.

This is a senior governance and leadership role operating in a complex, high-risk environment, requiring strong judgement, legislative knowledge and the ability to manage competing priorities while supporting a multidisciplinary team.

The role is available nationally, with candidates required to be located near a state or territory to the appropriate office to attend mandatory in-office days. Flexible and hybrid working arrangements can be discussed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a specialist team managing Releases of Information (ROI), FOI requests, subpoenas, court orders, APP 12 applications and other legal notices
  • Make and oversee statutory decisions under the Privacy Act 1988 and FOI Act 1982
  • Manage the release of highly sensitive clinical and personal information in line with legislation and organisational policy
  • Provide authoritative advice to senior leaders on privacy, information governance and legal risk
  • Prepare high-quality, defensible written decisions, reports and executive briefs
  • Manage competing priorities to ensure lawful, timely and compliant outcomes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Foster a positive, professional team culture with a strong focus on integrity and quality

About You
You will bring demonstrated experience operating at EL1 level (or equivalent) in a governance, statutory or regulatory environment, with a strong understanding of information management and compliance.

Essential experience includes:

  • Extensive experience managing FOI, Privacy Act requests, subpoenas and legal correspondence
  • Previous experience within a Senior Governance role equivilent to an EL1
  • Translating policy or legislation into operational practice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including senior executive advice
  • Proven experience leading teams in complex operational environments and overseeing decisions under legislation
  • High levels of professionalism, judgement and emotional intelligence

Highly desirable:

  • Experience within the Australian Public Service
  • Experience in health or mental health settings
  • Exposure to managing sensitive clinical or protected information

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Australian citizenship is mandatory
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
  • Successful completion of a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
