The opportunity
This business has cracked the hard part - closing the deals. Now it's dealing with a better problem: more enterprise appetite than it has hands to serve.
Every new customer needs to go from "we signed" to "this is live and working" - and right now, that whole journey runs through the founders. That's not sustainable, and it's holding the business back from moving faster on the accounts already in the door. They're bringing in someone to take that entire motion off their plate, own it, and build it into something repeatable.
There's no existing function for this. No handbook, no predecessor, no established way of doing it. You'd be the first person in the seat, which means the way this gets done is largely up to you.
What the job actually involves
- Taking ownership of new deployments from signed contract through to live and working - figuring out scope, timelines, and what "done" looks like as you go
- Sitting across engineering, product and customer teams simultaneously and making sure none of it stalls
- Turning the mess of "how we did it this time" into documented process the next person can follow
- Building the numbers case - proving impact to the customer's senior stakeholders in language they respond to, so a pilot turns into something bigger
- Spotting the patterns nobody else sees because you're the one in the weeds - and pushing those insights back into how the product gets built
- Hiring and shaping the team that eventually sits under this function
Expect the role to look different in a year. Whoever takes this on will have a direct hand in defining what it becomes - this isn't a job description you execute against, it's one you help rewrite.
Who they need
- Several years in a hands-on, client-facing delivery role - could be technical implementation, solutions consulting, account management - or a strong background out of top-tier strategy consulting, having actually driven and delivered programs of work rather than just advised on them
- Real evidence of running complicated, multi-stakeholder projects start to finish - not one piece of a bigger machine, but the whole thing, including the senior relationship
- Genuinely comfortable operating without a rulebook. This is a build-it-as-you-go environment, not a follow-the-process one
- Can turn technical delivery work into a business case that lands with executives - time-to-value, adoption, cost, the numbers that matter to leadership
- Strong enough at juggling competing priorities to run several fronts at once and still deliver on time
- Technical curiosity helps but isn't mandatory - comfortable enough in technical conversations to hold your ground, willing to learn the rest
The one non-negotiable: this needs someone who can't help but get stuck in. Who spots a broken process and fixes it without waiting for permission. Someone who treats "that's not my job" as a foreign concept, and who's motivated by making the business better, not just doing their bit of it.
Bonus points for: early-stage startup experience, exposure to AI or voice products, or a background touching developer tools, product analytics or customer platforms.
