Senior Financial Accountant | Financial Services

Drive accurate month-end and year-end reporting, reconciliations, and financial statements across multiple entities in a complex finance environment.

MARS are partnering an established and growing financial services organisation to appoint a Senior Financial Accountant to play a key role across month-end, statutory reporting and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on position suited to a technically strong accountant who enjoys ownership, problem-solving and working closely with senior finance leaders in a fast-moving environment.

The successful candidate will be CA/CPA qualified, with 4+ years from a Big 4 or Mid-Tier audit function, or a commercial background within an large complex and/or ASX listed environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance / Finance Manager, you'll take responsibility for end-to-end month-end processes across a portfolio of entities, support half-year and year-end reporting, and act as a key point of contact for auditors and regulators. You'll also contribute to process improvements and ad-hoc projects as the business continues to scale.

The Responsibilities:

  • Complete month-end processes for multiple entities, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations and result commentary
  • Perform and investigate bank reconciliations and resolve variances
  • Support regulatory and statutory reporting requirements (including GST/BAS, APRA, ABS)
  • Prepare half-year and full-year financial statements for designated entities
  • Review month-end outputs prepared by finance officers
  • Liaise with external auditors and respond to audit requests
  • Assist with technical accounting matters and finance-led projects as they arise
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of finance processes and controls

The Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and CA/CPA qualification with 4-7 years' accounting experience
  • Must have audit experience working at a Big 4 or Mid-Tier chartered firm or come from a large complex and/or ASX listed environment (essential)
  • Financial services experience highly regarded but not essential
  • Hands-on, deadline-driven and comfortable working in a growing, evolving business
  • Strong technical accounting foundation with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Team-oriented and adaptable, with a focus on meeting deadlines and driving improvements.

To Note:

  • Only candidates with a Big 4/Mid-Tier audit background or from a large complex and/or ASX listed environment are being considered for this role
  • They operate a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office, 2 days from home
  • Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have long-term working rights
