Senior Accounts Payable & Receivable Officer

Location: Melbourne's Inner City Suburbs
Reports To: Finance Manager
Employment Type: Full-time, Temporary Contract


About the Role

The Senior Accounts Payable & Receivable Officer will play a key role in the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of supplier payments and customer receivables. This position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative finance team and contribute to maintaining strong financial controls, efficient processes, and excellent stakeholder relationships.


Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable:

  • Manage end-to-end Accounts Payable processing, including invoice matching, coding, approvals, and payment runs.

  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies promptly.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GST, and other statutory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate supplier records and support month-end accruals and reporting.

Accounts Receivable:

  • Oversee the timely invoicing and receipting of customer payments.

  • Monitor outstanding debts and follow up on overdue accounts in a professional and customer-focused manner.

  • Reconcile AR sub-ledger to the general ledger and prepare debtor ageing reports.

  • Liaise with internal departments and customers to resolve billing or payment issues.

General Finance Support:

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and journals.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy within AP/AR processes.

  • Provide financial information and reporting support to the Finance Manager as required.

  • Contribute to system enhancements and participate in finance-related projects.


Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 4-5 years' experience in a combined Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable role, ideally in a medium-to-large organisation.

  • Apparel21 ERP systems experience - Essential
  • Experience in retail, wholesale, or FMCG environments will be highly regarded.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.

  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
