Our client is a well-known and highly respected Australian business with a strong national presence and an established reputation within its industry. Due to continued business requirements, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their team on a 12-month fixed term contract.

About the Role

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Officer will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely end-to-end payroll services for employees across the business.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring payroll is processed efficiently, accurately and in accordance with relevant legislation, awards, company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing on a weekly basis
  • Process new starters, terminations, transfers, salary changes and other employee movements
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and ensure payroll data is kept up to date
  • Process leave, allowances, deductions, overtime and other payroll adjustments
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers in a timely and professional manner
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and assist with payroll reporting
  • Assist with month-end and year-end payroll activities
  • Ensure payroll processes comply with relevant Australian legislation, awards and taxation requirements
  • Assist with superannuation, PAYG and other statutory requirements
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues
  • Maintain payroll documentation and ensure appropriate processes and controls are followed
  • Work closely with HR, Finance and other internal stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems and efficiencies
  • Provide support to the wider payroll team as required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working in a Payroll Officer or similar payroll position
  • Demonstrated experience processing end-to-end payroll
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and statutory requirements
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive employee information
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with a large ERP or payroll system will be highly regarded
