Our client is a well-established and growing healthcare organisation providing essential services across Melbourne. With a strong focus on quality care, collaboration and continuous improvement, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their supportive finance team and ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll.

About the Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Payroll Officer will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of payroll while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, modern awards and enterprise agreements. This role requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality and excellent customer service, supporting employees across a diverse healthcare workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including new starters, terminations and employment changes.
  • Accurately calculate salaries, wages, overtime, allowances, penalties and leave entitlements.
  • Interpret and apply relevant healthcare awards, enterprise agreements and Fair Work legislation.
  • Process superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax and other statutory obligations.
  • Reconcile payroll reports, leave balances and payroll-related general ledger accounts.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Prepare payroll reporting and support month-end and year-end payroll activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Single Touch Payroll (STP) and other legislative reporting requirements.
  • Assist with payroll audits and contribute to process improvements and system enhancements.
  • Work collaboratively with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and data integrity.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in an end-to-end payroll position.
  • Experience working within the healthcare, aged care, disability or not-for-profit sector is highly regarded.
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and Fair Work requirements.
  • Experience interpreting modern awards and enterprise agreements, preferably within healthcare.
  • Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using payroll and HRIS systems (such as Chris21, Micropay, Dayforce, Employment Hero, Workday or TechnologyOne) is advantageous.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.
