Payroll Officer

MARS Recruitment is partnering with a growing organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Officer looking for a role that offers variety, ownership, and exposure beyond payroll.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys managing end-to-end payroll while also supporting broader HR administration and employee lifecycle activities. Working closely with the HR team, you'll play a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, maintaining employee records, and contributing to ongoing process and system improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end payroll processing for a diverse workforce
  • Managing timesheets, leave requests, and payroll compliance
  • Responding to payroll-related queries from employees and managers
  • Supporting onboarding, employment contracts, and HR documentation
  • Maintaining accurate employee records and HR data
  • Assisting with recruitment administration and job advertising
  • Preparing HR and payroll reports as required
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives and system enhancements
  • Supporting payroll and HR system implementation projects

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience processing end-to-end payroll
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience using payroll systems such as Xero or similar platforms
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and administrative capabilities
  • The ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working within mining, resources, construction, engineering, or similar industries
  • Knowledge of award and enterprise agreement interpretation
  • Payroll, accounting, HR, or business-related qualifications
