Payroll and AR Officer

6-Month Contract | $45-$45 per hour + Super | Hybrid Working – Take ownership of a complex, end-to-end fortnightly payroll – SCHADS or Retail Award experience essential – 6-month contract with genuine potential to become permanent – Hybrid working – 2-3 days in the office


An established and purpose-driven not-for-profit organisation is looking for an experienced Payroll & AR Officer with strong payroll expertise to join its finance team on an initial 6-month contract.

Payroll is the key focus of this position. You will take ownership of a fortnightly payroll covering approximately 400+ employees across retail, corporate services and service delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer or Finance Officer who is confident working with complex awards and is looking for a role where they can take genuine ownership of the payroll function.

The Responsibilities:

Working as part of a collaborative finance team, your primary responsibility will be ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payroll across a single entity.

  • End-to-end processing of a fortnightly payroll for approximately 415 employees.
  • Reviewing and reconciling timesheets, rosters and leave.
  • Processing allowances, penalties, overtime and termination payments.
  • Interpreting and applying SCHADS and Retail Award provisions.
  • Managing STP lodgements, superannuation and PAYG requirements.
  • Responding to employee and manager payroll queries.
  • Completing payroll reconciliations and supporting month-end requirements.
  • Supporting salary packaging administration and payroll compliance.
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and employee data.
  • Providing broader Accounts Receivable support once established within the payroll function.
  • Assisting with bank and revenue reconciliations, invoicing and general finance activities as required.


You will ideally have:

  • Strong end-to-end Australian payroll experience.
  • Previous experience working with the SCHADS Award and/or General Retail Industry Award - essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Experience working with a medium-to-high-volume payroll.
  • Confidence interpreting awards, penalties, allowances and employee entitlements.
  • Experience with KeyPay and/or ELMO highly regarded.
  • Previous not-for-profit and salary packaging experience advantageous.
  • Accounts Receivable experience beneficial, although payroll expertise is the priority.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously.
