Manager – Accounts Payable & Payroll

Permanent Manager – Accounts Payable & Payroll job opportunity with a Technology organisation located in Melbourne CBD

Position Summary

The Accounts Payable and Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end accounts payable functions and managing the company's payroll operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely processing of payments, compliance with regulatory obligations, and supporting a positive employee experience.


Key Responsibilities



Accounts Payable

  • Manage the full accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices and payments

  • Maintain vendor relationships and resolve queries or discrepancies promptly

  • Oversee the reconciliation of accounts payable ledger and supplier statements

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures

  • Assist in month-end closing and reporting related to accounts payable



Payroll

  • Manage and process end-to-end payroll for Australian employees (and other jurisdictions if applicable)

  • Ensure compliance with relevant awards, legislation (e.g., Fair Work, ATO), and company policies

  • Prepare and submit payroll tax, PAYG, and superannuation payments

  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and provide monthly payroll reporting

  • Manage employee payroll queries and maintain confidentiality of employee data

  • Oversee year-end processes including STP finalisation and payment summaries


Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a similar Accounts Payable and/or Payroll Manager role

  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and modern awards

  • Experience in a publicly listed company environment is highly desirable

  • High proficiency with accounting and payroll systems (e.g., Xero, MYOB, SAP, or similar)

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline

  • CPA/CA qualification is advantageous but not essential
