Financial Controller

Sydney | Hybrid | Purpose Driven Organisation

Broad Financial Leadership Role
Hybrid working with office based near Hornsby
Partner directly with the COO and Executive Leadership Team

Mars Recruitment is partnering with a well established, purpose driven organisation that supports people living with disability and their families to appoint an experienced Financial Controller.

This is a broad, hands on leadership role that combines day to day financial management with business partnering, systems improvement and strategic planning. Reporting directly to the COO, you will play a key role in ensuring strong financial governance while helping the organisation continue to grow and deliver exceptional outcomes for participants and their families.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves while also contributing at a strategic level. You'll have the opportunity to modernise finance processes, improve automation, strengthen reporting and partner with leaders across the organisation to support informed decision making.

The Opportunity

As the Financial Controller, you'll take ownership of the finance function across multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial management, payroll compliance and strong financial controls. You'll also identify opportunities to improve systems, automate processes and provide meaningful financial insights that support the organisation's long term strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day to day finance function including bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations.
  • Manage end to end payroll, ensuring compliance with SCHADS Award and multi state employment obligations.
  • Prepare monthly management reports including P&L, balance sheet, cashflow and variance analysis.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and cashflow planning.
  • Manage BAS, IAS, payroll tax, workers compensation and statutory compliance.
  • Oversee NDIS revenue, claims reconciliation and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate annual financial statements, external audit and internal governance processes.
  • Identify opportunities to automate finance processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Partner with the COO and leadership team to provide commercial insights and support strategic decision making.
  • Drive continuous improvement across financial systems including Xero and integrated business platforms.
  • Build strong relationships with external accountants, auditors and key stakeholders.

About You

You'll ideally bring:

  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Senior Finance Manager within a hands on environment.
  • Strong experience across financial reporting, payroll, compliance and operational finance.
  • Proven ability to improve finance processes through automation and systems enhancements.
  • Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, board reporting and financial analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills together with strong Xero experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously while partnering effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience within NDIS, healthcare, community services or a regulated environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.
  • CA or CPA qualification is desirable but not essential.

What's on Offer

  • Hybrid working arrangement with three days in the Hornsby office and two days working from home.
  • Broad leadership role with significant autonomy and visibility.
  • Opportunity to partner directly with the COO and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Play a meaningful role within a purpose driven organisation making a genuine difference in the community.
  • Supportive and collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

If you're looking for a broad Financial Controller position where you can influence strategy, improve systems and lead the finance function within a growing organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
