Database Administrator (DBA)

DBA / initial 6-month day rate contract / supporting critical Microsoft SQL Server environments across both on-premises and Azure platforms

The Company

Our client is a well-established enterprise organisation with a large and complex technology environment supporting critical business systems across Australia. They are investing heavily in modernising their SQL Server platform, delivering infrastructure improvements and cloud migration initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team on an initial 6-month day rate contract, with a strong pipeline of work and genuine potential for extension beyond the initial engagement.

The Role

Working as part of a collaborative infrastructure team, you'll be responsible for administering and optimising Microsoft SQL Server environments across both on-premises and Azure platforms. This 6-month day rate contract offers a mix of BAU support, project work and cloud migration initiatives, providing plenty of variety from day one.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure platforms.
  • Deliver SQL Server installations, upgrades, patching and migration projects, including Azure SQL and Azure Managed Instance.
  • Manage high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, mirroring and replication.
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues and complete ongoing performance tuning.
  • Manage database security, backup, recovery and encryption, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
  • Design and support database environments that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Participate in an on-call support roster while contributing to project delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidate Experience

  • Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience within large enterprise environments, including upgrades, patching, migrations and performance tuning.
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery technologies, together with exposure to Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instance or cloud migration projects.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work across both BAU support and project delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity to secure an initial 6-month day rate contract with the opportunity to work across critical enterprise infrastructure while positioning yourself for potential contract extensions.

Please note that due to the anticipated volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. We expect to begin reviewing applications within 3-5 business days.
