Contracts Principal/Commercial Lead

Senior commercial role in a growing mining services firm – lead commercial strategy, protect margins and take your career to the next level.

A rare permanent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Contracts Principal/Commercial Lead to join a rapidly expanding mining services organisation as they secure and deliver major new projects across WA. This newly created role sits at the heart of the commercial function and will oversee the commercial arm of the business across both pre-award and post-award phases.

About the role

You will ensure commercial excellence across the lifecycle of mining projects. This includes leading pre-award costing and pricing accuracy, reviewing consultant inputs, validating estimators' work and ensuring bid assumptions, risks, and margins are sound as well as driving disciplined post-award contract administration, ensuring variations, claims, EOTs, and commercial notices are submitted in real time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial, contractual, and pricing activities from tender through project execution and contract close-out
  • Oversee post-award contract administration including variations, claims, EOTs
  • Review, challenge and refine cost estimates, pricing models, and bid inputs to ensure accuracy and margin protection
  • Manage tender submissions, commercial evaluations and negotiations
  • Draft, review and negotiate contract terms and conditions to mitigate commercial and operational risk
  • Ensure all commercial documentation is submitted in real time to prevent commercial exposure
  • Provide commercial insights, reporting and forecasting to the leadership teamsSkills & Experience

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Proven experience in a senior commercial contracts or similar leadership role within mining
  • Strong understanding of contract law, commercial frameworks and the full pre-award and post-award contract lifecycle
  • Demonstrated experience/understanding of estimating, tendering and pricing mining projects
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret commercial data
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Commerce, Law, Quantity Surveying or related field (highly regarded).
