Chief Financial Officer | Events Management | Not-for-Profit

A leading not-for-profit organisation in the arts and events space is seeking a commercially astute and purpose-driven CFO to join their executive leadership team.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced finance leader to combine strategic oversight with hands-on execution, playing a critical role in supporting the long-term financial sustainability of a nationally recognised events organisation.

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO and partnering closely with the Board, you'll oversee finance, HR, IT, operations, and risk management. You'll provide high-level financial and commercial advice, lead budgeting and reporting, manage stakeholder relationships, and drive strategic planning initiatives.

This is a broad and influential role, suited to someone who thrives in a dynamic, mission-led environment and enjoys rolling up their sleeves to get things done.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of financial management including budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, compliance, and audit
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO and Board to support sustainable growth
  • Guide long-term financial planning, scenario modelling, and funding strategy across event cycles
  • Lead financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including major government funders
  • Partner with the Head of Events to manage event budgets and drive earned income
  • Develop and maintain robust financial systems, controls, and risk management frameworks
  • Oversee corporate services functions including HR policies and processes, IT, office operations, and facilities management
  • Manage, mentor and develop a small finance team (2 direct reports)
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, reporting and organisational capability

About You

  • CA/CPA qualified with 10+ years' experience in senior finance roles within SME's (essential)
  • Strong commercial acumen with broad exposure across finance, operations, and people leadership
  • Experience in financial planning, reporting, compliance, and risk in complex or multi-stakeholder environments
  • Proven ability to partner with executive and Board-level stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style
  • Background in not-for-profit, events, arts, or community sectors is highly regarded

To Note

  • Only candidates with experience in SME's are being considered for this position
  • Experience in the not-for-profit or events space is highly advantageous
  • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
