Category Specialist

Our client is a well-established global organisation with a strong reputation for operational excellence and innovation. They are seeking an experienced Category Specialist to join their Perth-based procurement team and play a key role in delivering strategic sourcing outcomes across a diverse portfolio of indirect spend categories.

About the Role

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies that deliver commercial value, drive supplier performance and support business objectives. Working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, you will manage the full procurement lifecycle from category planning through to sourcing, contract negotiation and ongoing supplier management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category strategies across a diverse portfolio of indirect and direct spend categories
  • Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing activities including market analysis, tendering, supplier evaluation and contract negotiations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation, supplier innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Manage supplier performance, contract compliance and commercial risk.
  • Analyse spend data and market intelligence to support strategic procurement decisions.
  • Drive procurement best practice and ensure compliance with procurement policies and governance frameworks.

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in Category Management, Strategic Sourcing or Procurement within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience developing and implementing category strategies.
  • Proven capability managing end-to-end procurement and contract lifecycles.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder engagement and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret spend data and market trends.
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP or similar procurement platforms.
  • CIPS qualifications or relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.
