Accounts Officer

Permanent Accounts Officer job opportunity with a prestigious national law firm located in Melbourne CBD

Position Overview:

Our client, a prestigious national law firm located in the heart of Melbourne CBD, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Officer to join their dynamic finance team. The successful candidate will support the firm's financial operations by managing daily accounting tasks and ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process and maintain accurate records of all accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring timely payments and collections.

  • Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements and financial records, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.

  • Trust Accounts: Reconciliation of trust accounts, Client Transactions and Fund Transfers
  • Billing and Invoicing: Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with billing cycles, assisting legal teams with billing queries and adjustments.

  • General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and updating the general ledger, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, supporting senior finance team members in audits and internal reviews.

  • Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal financial policies. Assist with the preparation of reports for internal and external audits.

  • Expense Management: Monitor and manage firm expenses, ensuring proper documentation and approvals for all expenditures.

  • System Management: Utilize accounting software to input financial data, monitor trends, and generate reports, with an emphasis on improving efficiency and accuracy.

  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the finance department, including filing, responding to inquiries, and assisting with other ad-hoc tasks as needed.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: Proven experience (2+ years) in an accounting role, ideally within a professional services or legal environment.

  • Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Software Proficiency: Experience with accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, or similar), and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, staff, and vendors.

  • Time Management: Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing individual responsibilities.
