About the Role
As the Payroll Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the payroll function through detailed analysis, reporting, compliance monitoring, and payroll system administration. You will work closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and external providers to ensure payroll operations run efficiently and accurately.
The successful candidate will bring strong analytical capability, advanced payroll knowledge, and experience working within complex payroll environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse payroll data to identify discrepancies, trends, and improvement opportunities
- Support the end-to-end payroll process across weekly, fortnightly, and/or monthly payrolls
- Ensure payroll processing is compliant with relevant Awards, EBAs, Fair Work legislation, and taxation requirements
- Reconcile payroll reports, superannuation, payroll tax, and leave balances
- Prepare and maintain payroll reporting, dashboards, and analytics for management
- Investigate and resolve payroll queries and complex payroll issues
- Assist with payroll audits and compliance reviews
- Support payroll system upgrades, testing, implementations, and process improvements
- Partner with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee and payroll data integrity
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of sensitive payroll information
- Develop and document payroll procedures and process improvements
- Assist with EOFY processing, STP reporting, and other statutory obligations
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a Payroll Analyst, Senior Payroll Officer, or Payroll Specialist position
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Awards, and compliance requirements
- Experience working within large or complex payroll environments
- Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and data analysis
- Experience with payroll systems such as SAP, ADP, Chris21, Workday, Preceda, Micropay, or similar
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Relevant payroll or accounting qualifications highly regarded
