Commercial Contracts Capability & Training Lead

This is a unique opportunity for a senior commercial contracts professional to step into a highly visible role and make significant impact long term.

MARS are partnering with a highly regarded, large-scale mining operation who are seeking a senior commercial contracts professional with construction contract training capability to deliver trainings business wide.

This is a unique and influential role where you will assess current commercial capability, identify gaps, and design, develop and deliver tailored training programs focused on post-award contract management, project delivery, claims and variations.

Working closely with senior internal stakeholders, this role blends commercial expertise, stakeholder engagement, training delivery and content creation. You'll play a critical role in embedding best-practice commercial behaviours across complex construction environments.

Regular site travel is required (ad-hoc, no roster), providing strong exposure to live project environments.

Key responsibilities

* Conduct a full diagnostic of commercial and contract management capability across delivery teams
* Design and develop targeted training frameworks and learning pathways
* Create engaging training content (presentations, tools, guides and reference materials)
* Deliver training sessions and workshops across corporate and site-based teams
* Provide practical post-award commercial guidance across construction projects
* Partner closely with internal stakeholders to drive adoption and long-term capability uplift
* Support continuous improvement initiatives across contract and commercial practices

About you

You will bring a strong background in construction contracts and commercial management, with the credibility to train, influence and uplift experienced delivery teams.

You will demonstrate:
* Proven experience in post-award construction contract management
* Strong knowledge of variations, claims, EOTs and commercial risk
* Experience working on construction projects, major capital works or within consulting environments
* Confidence designing and delivering training to diverse stakeholder groups
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Ability to translate complex commercial concepts into practical, usable learning
* Strong content creation capability (PowerPoint, visual learning tools, frameworks)
* Flexibility to travel to site as required
