About the Role

The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Finance Manager and wider finance team in the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and motivated individual who is looking to further develop their accounting skills within a dynamic financial services environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports

  • Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger maintenance

  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes

  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions as required

  • Assist with BAS, PAYG, and other statutory reporting obligations

  • Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments

  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and service providers

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the finance function

  • Provide general support to the Finance Manager and senior accountants as needed


Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline

  • 2+ years of experience in an accounting or finance support role (preferably within financial services or professional services)

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and reporting standards

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, or similar)

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Working towards or interested in commencing CPA/CA qualification (highly regarded)
