Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to lead and manage the payroll function for our client's Melbourne CBD office. This role is responsible for overseeing a small, dedicated payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large, diverse workforce across multiple sites nationally.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, excellent technical payroll knowledge, and a proactive approach to process improvement and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for employees across the national organisation

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small payroll team, promoting high performance and professional growth

  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with relevant legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements

  • Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT departments to ensure payroll data integrity and reporting accuracy

  • Manage payroll-related reporting, including superannuation, PAYG, STP, and other statutory obligations

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant awards, Fair Work requirements, and state/federal tax regulations

  • Lead audits and manage external payroll compliance reporting

  • Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and ensure proactive implementation of necessary changes

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience in managing payroll for a medium to large organisation, ideally within the healthcare or related industry

  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, taxation, and compliance

  • Experience leading and developing a payroll team

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills

  • Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Chris21, SAP, or similar), with advanced Excel skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred)

  • Certification in Payroll or Membership with the Australian Payroll Association (highly regarded)
