We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to lead and manage the payroll function for our client's Melbourne CBD office. This role is responsible for overseeing a small, dedicated payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large, diverse workforce across multiple sites nationally.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, excellent technical payroll knowledge, and a proactive approach to process improvement and compliance.
Manage the end-to-end payroll process for employees across the national organisation
Lead, mentor, and develop a small payroll team, promoting high performance and professional growth
Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with relevant legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT departments to ensure payroll data integrity and reporting accuracy
Manage payroll-related reporting, including superannuation, PAYG, STP, and other statutory obligations
Ensure compliance with all relevant awards, Fair Work requirements, and state/federal tax regulations
Lead audits and manage external payroll compliance reporting
Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and ensure proactive implementation of necessary changes
Proven experience in managing payroll for a medium to large organisation, ideally within the healthcare or related industry
Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, taxation, and compliance
Experience leading and developing a payroll team
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills
Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Chris21, SAP, or similar), with advanced Excel skills
Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred)
Certification in Payroll or Membership with the Australian Payroll Association (highly regarded)
