Utilities – shape end-to-end architecture for complex retail systems, designing modern Azure cloud-based solutions that directly impact customer

The business is investing heavily in digital capability to enhance customer experience, strengthen operational performance, and deliver long-term value across the energy market.

The Role
This is a permanent Solution Architect position within the Finance, Risk and Operations division, based in Melbourne CBD. The role provides end-to-end architecture leadership across the covering customer experience, billing, CRM/CPQ, pricing, and market settlement. You'll shape and deliver architecture solutions that underpin customer engagement, compliance, and operational excellence, while guiding the use of cloud and integration technologies across the enterprise. Experience within energy / utilities sectors will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of solution architectures across energy retail initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organisation's technology roadmap
  • Design and govern event-driven, microservices-based architectures using Azure Integration Services (Service Bus, Azure Functions, APIM)
  • Produce and maintain architecture artefacts including solution documents, integration designs, and data models
  • Collaborate closely with security and governance teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise and regulatory standards
  • Design integrations with AEMO and other market participants to enable compliance and operational efficiency
  • Conduct impact assessments, evaluate solution options, and present recommendations to architecture governance forums
  • Partner with stakeholders to capture business needs, influence design decisions, and shape the retail technology roadmap

Candidate Experience

  • Proven experience in the Australian Energy or Utilities sector, particularly within retail electricity operations (meter-to-cash, billing, CRM, pricing, settlements, compliance)
  • Strong technical background in Azure cloud and integration technologies, microservices, and event-driven design
  • Skilled in creating architecture artefacts and applying frameworks such as ArchiMate or TOGAF
