Registered Psychologist – Phobia Recovery

Are you a compassionate and skilled Psychologist with a specialisation in trauma and phobia rehabilitation ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need?

MARS Recruitment are seeking a part time 0.6FTE 3 days per week Registered Psychologist help clients overcome mental, emotional, and behavioral challenges based in Campbelltown, Ashfield and Parramatta.

About the role:
You will work under the direct supervision of the Psychological Services Manager, your role will entail the diagnosis and treatment of specialized mental health conditions related to phobias and trauma.

Your responsibilities will involve conducting comprehensive psychological assessments and administering therapy to a client base. This role will primarily focus on individuals seeking support in addressing trauma and phobia-related concerns, particularly those stemming from injury trauma and driving-related anxieties resulting from motor vehicle incidents.

Your work will be conducted in a secure and meticulously controlled therapeutic environment, facilitating the gradual recovery and rehabilitation of those in need.

You will review behavioral insights by observing a patient's reactions in a controlled virtual reality (VR) environment, allowing you to gain an understanding of the specific nature of their fears and tailor treatment accordingly.

You will deal with external stakeholders inclusive of but not limited to Insurers, Injured Workers and Medical Professionals and assess potential hurdles that may arise in the return-to-work/ injury management process and identify sustainable and safe outcomes for all.

Additionally, to Workers Insurance referrals, you may be required on occasion to provide services to diverse clientele, including Workers Insurance, Medicare, NDIS, ADF & DVA, Victims of Crime, private clients, EAP, and more.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology.
  • AHPRA Registration.
  • Strong understanding of psychological assessment and treatment tools and methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact with clients and colleagues in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO).


Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in worker insurance for psychological treatment of phobias and trauma.
  • Willingness to gain SIRA accreditation.
  • Knowledge of virtual reality and utilisation of this to overcome trauma.
  • Familiarity with referral schemes (Medicare, NDIS, ADF, DVA, EAP).
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and associated requirements.
  • Expertise in pain management strategies.
  • Experience or willingness to learn critical incident stress debriefing.
  • Proficiency in performing Psychological Functional Assessments
